Education and Training(updated 21 September 2011)The Faculty of Occupational Medicine provides education and training in occupational medicine. This section sets out the range of formal qualifications which are offered. As well as being responsible for postgraduate specialist training in occupational medicine, the Faculty offers qualifications for non specialist doctors, and also some which are appropriate for other occupational health professionals. A career in occupational medicineThe qualification of Membership of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine makes doctors eligible for entry to the GMC specialist register and this is the normal route for those wishing to pursue a career in occupational medicine. Training for Specialists (leading to Membership of the Faculty)The PMETB has now merged with the GMC. In documents written before the merger, please read GMC for PMETB. Becoming a Specialist in Occupational Medicine General overview Changes to the Regulations for Membership 2011. The new curriculum for specialty trainees came into force on 1st August 2007, along with its associated assessment system. In August 2010, following the merger of PMETB, with the GMC, minor housekeeping took place to the curriculum to reflect this. Essentially, this curriculum is indistinguishable from the 2007 version and all trainees are following the same curriculum, aside from the change in date, to August 2010. The Faculty has revised its Person Specification for entry to specialist training at ST3 (Specialty Training Year 3), to reflect the new curriculum. GMC statement on examinations and the award of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) - May 2011The GMC has agreed that doctors who are already in specialty training, or who enter specialty training by 31 October 2013, will be able to have any valid passes in previously approved national professional examinations counted towards a CCT, even if they were obtained outside approved training.
